아주 오랜 옛날

바닷가 한 왕국에

애너벨 리라 불리우는

한 아가씨가 살고 있었답니다

그 아가씨는 나를 사랑하고 내게 사랑받는 것 외에는

아무 생각 없이 살았습니다

 

나도 아이였고, 그녀 또한 아이였습니다

바닷가 왕국에서

우리는 사랑 이상의 사랑으로 사랑했습니다

나와 나의 애너벨 리는

하늘을 나는 천사도 그녀와 나를

부러워했던 사랑으로 말입니다

 

그 때문이었습니다. 오래 전에

바닷가 이 왕국에서

구름으로부터 바람이 불어

나의 아름다운 애너벨 리를 싸늘히 얼게 한 것은

그녀의 지체 높은 친척들이 와서

그녀를 내 곁에서 데려가

바닷가 이 왕국에 있는

무덤에 가두어 버렸습니다

 

천상에서 우리보다 결코 행복하지 못 했던 천사들이 늘

그녀와 나를 시기했습니다

그렇지요 !  바로 그 때문이었습니다

(바닷가 이 왕국에선 누구나 다 알 듯이)

밤 사이 구름에서 바람이 불어와

나의 애너벨 리를 싸늘히 얼려 죽인 것은

 

그러나 우리의 사랑, 그것은 훨씬 더 강했지요

우리보다 나이 많은 이들의 사랑보다도

우리보다 훨씬 지혜로운 많은 이들의 사랑보다도

위로는 천상의 천사들도

밑으로는 바다 밑의 악마들까지도

내 영혼을 아름다운 애너벨 리의 영혼으로부터

떼어 놓을 수 없었습니다

 

달빛 흐를때 언제나 내 꿈 속엔

아름다운 애너벨 리의 모습이 나타나고

별들이 떠오르면 언제나 나는

애너벨 리의 찬란한 눈빛을 느낍니다

그래서 밤새 나는 누워있는 것이지요

내 사랑, 아 내 사랑, 내 생명, 내 신부 곁에

바닷가 그 곳, 그녀의 무덤에서

철썩이는 바닷가 그녀의 무덤에서

Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

 

But our love it was stronger by far than the love

Of those who were older than we

Of many far wiser than we

And neither the angels in heaven above,

Nor the demons down under the sea,

Can ever dissever my soul from the soul

Of the beautiful Annabel Lee

 

For the moon never beams, wihout bringing me dreams

Of the beautiful Annabel Lee

And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes

Of the beauriful Annabel Lee

And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,

In the sepulchre there by the sea,

In her tomb by the sounding sea.
